    Type III stamp. A fantasy issued in the early 20th century in allusion to the proclaimed Riograndense Republic, a breakaway state that declared its independence from Brazil in September of 1836. This short-lived state was pejoratively nicknamed by its opponents (the Brazilian Imperialists) as the Piratini Republic after the small Piratini village, so as to downplay the size of the revolution. 16.31 grams, 35 mm.
