Western Asiatic Style Agate Bead and Mount Group
20TH CENTURY A.D.
7/8 - 1 3/8 in. (133 grams total, 22-36 mm).
Comprising: seven keeled lentoid-shaped beads pierced through the underside; three domed with triple piercings on the underside; one flat biconical bead; one rectangular flat bead; one keeled tongue-shaped bead, pierced through each corner on the underside; some with remains of metal wire within the piercings. [13, No Reserve]

The figure is probably a Nommo, a primordial ancestral spirit in Dogon cosmogony. A Nommo is usually considered to be amphibious, hermaphroditic and fish-like. They are typically depicted in Dogon art with a humanoid upper torso, and a fish-like lower torso and tail. -
