From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000. From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.
The jar belongs to the Early Bronze Period I or II of Canaan, in red decoration with net pattern, and it is unusual having an oval cross-section. Many of these jars were found at Tell el-Far'ah.
