Very Large Stone Age 'Livre de Beurre' Cleaver
NEOLITHIC PERIOD, CIRCA 3RD MILLENNIUM B.C.
10 1/4 in. (2.170 kg, 26 cm.).
Substantial core from which flakes have been struck; triangular in section with broad point in relation to the butt; with inked inscription to one side: 'NILE'. [No Reserve]

From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000.
From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.
