Timurid Engraved Iron Bowl

CIRCA 14TH CENTURY A.D.

7 3/4 in. (636 grams, 19.5 cm).

With rivetted sidewall and base, incised herringbone hatching, four roundels each with rosette to the centre and inscribed arch; repaired.

Provenance

Formerly acquired in the 1980s.
From the family collection of a Hampstead gentleman.

Whorls in the shape of discs, cylinders and cones of clay, bone, stone and other more precious materials are widespread in all areas and periods, evidencing the skills of craftswomen engaged in textile production.
