'The Romney' Medieval Gilt Silver Fede Ring with Hands Holding a Heart
CIRCA 1400-1550 A.D.
7/8 in. (3.70 grams, 22.70 mm overall, 19.57 mm internal diameter (approximate size British T, USA 9 1/2, Europe 21.26, Japan 20)).
With twisted-band detailing to the hoop, bezel formed as two hands supporting a heart and a crown with openwork detailing; marked to the inner face with PAS reference number '11089'.
Provenance
Found while searching with a metal detector near Romney, Folkestone and Hythe, Kent, UK, on Wednesday 1st August 2018.
Accompanied by a copy of the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) report no.KENT-11089B.
Accompanied by a copy of letters from the Coroner confirming that the Crown's interest in the ring under treasure reference no.2018T662 has been disclaimed.
Accompanied by copies of receipts from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport.

In 1383 AD, after fire in the town of Bad Wilsnack, Germany) three consecrated communion hosts were found undamaged in the ruins of the church. According to the legend, they were sprinkled with the Holy Blood of Christ, which made Bad Wilsnack a famous pilgrimage site. The resultant pilgrim badges were distinctive in shape with three circles arranged in a triangle and painted in red, referring to this miracle. Although the miracle was doubted by Reformation period scholars like John Hus, the final blow came in 1552, when the miraculous communion hosts were publicly burned. -
