Radiate and draped bust to right / Spes walking to left, holding flower and raising hem of robe. Cf. RIC V.2, 272-274. Very Fine.(2.32gr, 17mm, 5h.).

    Teos came under the rule of the Achaemenids, when Cyrus II (559-529 BC) was king. The occupation by the Persians led to the exodus of a large part of the population of Teos, between 545 and 540 BC, to Thrace, where they participated in the rebuilding of the city of Abdera. The two cities struck similar silver coins with the depiction of the griffin, seated on the right for Teos and on the left for Abdera.
