The method of casting this unique type of coin was adopted by the Gallic Celts who originally came from this region. Dolphins were generally struck in the form of a tree attached to the tail, although some examples appear to have been cast individually.

Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied beneath chin / ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus seated to left on high-backed throne, his feet resting on a low foot rest, holding long sceptre in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing to right with closed wings; in left field, male figure standing to left, wearing chlamys; monogram beneath throne.
