Sino-Tibetan Gilt Bronze Buddha Statue
20TH CENTURY A.D.
12 in. (2.7 kg, 30.5 cm).
Sitting nude on a lotus-flower base with openwork mandorla behind the tiered crown, bloom on the left arm curled around the wrist and two more emerging from the base bearing bodhisattva figures; hands in the teaching gesture (Dharmachakra Mudra), cabochon stud to the brow for the urna.

In the mid-fifteenth century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vase is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau. -

This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by search certificate no.12096-213519.
