Saxon Monumental Cross Shaft Fragment
8TH-10TH CENTURY A.D.
7 1/4 in. (4.8 kg, 18.5 cm).
Dressed block with carved ornament to two faces: Side A: within a lateral frame, high-relief ring-chain section in three-strand format; Side B: three-strand arch intersecting with a four-strand segment and adjacent raised panel, possibly a section of a wing; repaired.

Disc mount with three-band guilloche, central cell with waffle-pattern gold foil insert. 2.8 grams, 19 mm
Found Essex, UK. From an old private collection of Norfolk, UK, gentleman, formed since 1998.
The central cell was intended to contain a cloison or cabochon garnet, now absent, through which the gold foil would shimmer with reflected light.
