Russian Orthodox Wooden Icon with Christ Pantocrator

20TH CENTURY A.D.

7 1/8 x 5 3/4 in. (218 grams, 18 x 14.7 cm).

Dressed in blue mantle and embroidered red undergarment, wearing a jewelled crown and holding an open Gospel in his left hand, right hand making the gesture of blessing; inscriptions 'IHS' and 'XPS' flanking the halo. [No Reserve]

Ian Wilkinson collection, Nottinghamshire, UK, formed since 1985.

Accompanied by a copy of a report for Treasure by Laura Smith. Accompanied by a copy of the British Museum’s Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) report no.ESS-CACCCD.
