3 1/4 - 3 1/2 in. (725 grams total, 83-88 mm).
Including fragments of terracotta and other tegula with impressed geometric detailing; one with inked inscription: 'Roman Baths / Ghajn Tuffieha, Malta' and 'Floor tile / Sinscombe, Surrey / B1/71', and three pieces with inked inscriptions from: 'Burgh Castle', Norfolk, UK. [6, No Reserve]

He amassed a large collection of objects between the 1960s-1980s.

Comprising a pair of discoid appliqués with beaded rim and high-relief pelta (military shield) motif, one with the pelta surmounted by a kantharos with a laurel wreath above, the other with vegetal volutes. 6.60 grams total, 61-62 mm

The subject represented on these two appliqués is a crescentic military shield, the so-called pelta, associated in the late Roman iconography with the Amazon female warriors. Many shields of this typology were also represented on the pedestal of the Column of Arcadius in Constantinople (circa 400 A.D.) and seemed to be associated with the heavy cavalry of the Imperial Guard (D’Amato-Negin, 2017, p.252). -
Roman Enamelled Bronze Bow Brooch

Dolphin-type T-shaped bow brooch with barrel-shaped crossbar, ornamented with punched segmentation to the obverse, imitation spring-coil to the reverse; shallow bow with lateral bands of pointillé detailing flanking a column of square cells to accept enamel fill; trumpet-shaped lobe finial; catch to reverse with openwork ornament; hinged pin to reverse. 21.8 grams, 49 mm
Found Wiltshire, UK, before 1974.
The brooch features a hinged pin but the ribbed ornament on the crossbar replicates the coiled spring of contemporary Colchester-type bow brooches. -
