Roman Silver Trumpet Whorl Brooch

1 1/2 in. (10 grams, 39 mm).
Plate brooch formed as an S-shaped La Tène scroll with trumpet and bulb detailing, catch and pin to the reverse.

Such lunar pendants were worn by girls in ancient Rome as amulets to protect them against evil forces. The equivalent pendant for boys was the bulla. -
