Roman Marble Statue of a Boar

1ST-2ND CENTURY A.D.

5 3/4 in. (935 grams total, 14.5 cm wide including stand).

Carved in parchment-coloured marble, the beast stands with head lowered; fur texture to the head and flanks; snout and tusks carefully detailed; mounted on a custom-made display stand. [No Reserve]

Provenance

From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000.
From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.
