Roman Bronze Strigil

CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.

9 1/4 in. (50 grams, 23.5 cm).

Comprising a shallow U-section curved head and rectangular handle folded at the top to create a suspension loop to reverse; repaired.

Acquired on the German art market around 2000.
From the collection of a Surrey, UK, gentleman.

    The letter C likely represents the Roman numeral Centenarius, or 100 Roman lbs.
