Renaissance Gold Ring with Rock Crystal Cabochon

16TH-17TH CENTURY A.D.

7/8 in. (3.34 grams, 21.66 mm overall, 16.26 mm internal diameter (approximate size British I 1/2, USA 4 1/2, Europe 8.07, Japan 7)).

With sculpted fronds to the shoulders, bezel a rectangular cell with hatched underside and scooped ledges, inset rock crystal cloison.

Provenance

Acquired on the European art market in the 1990s.
UK collection of a European gentleman.

    Naser al-Din Shah Qajar was the fourth Shah of Qajar, and the third longest reigning ruler in Iranian history. He was assassinated in Tehran on 1st May 1896. He is known for being the first modern Persian monarch to have formally visited Europe and to have written about his travels in his memoirs.
