Post Medieval Silver Statuette of Jupiter
19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY A.D.
2 5/8 in. (97 grams, 65 mm).
Jupiter standing beside a barley twist column, resting his left forearm on the pediment; right hand on hip, left holding a scroll; thick curly hair and beard with diadem to the brow, loosely draped himation.

Acquired on the London art market in the late 1980s-1990s.

Acquired by the vendor's father on the UK art market, before 1990.
Naser al-Din Shah Qajar was the fourth Shah of Qajar, and the third longest reigning ruler in Iranian history. He was assassinated in Tehran on 1st May 1896. He is known for being the first modern Persian monarch to have formally visited Europe and to have written about his travels in his memoirs.
