Post Medieval Silver Ring with 'In this Sign is Health' and Lion
CIRCA 16TH-17TH CENTURY A.D.
1 in. (10.31 grams, 28. 09 mm overall, 18.70 mm internal diameter (approximate size British R, USA 8 1/2, Europe 18 3/4, Japan 18)).
With hatched bands dividing the D-section hoop into quarters, ellipsoid cup-shaped bezel with impressed design of a lion gardant beside a rosette with legend above 'in hoc salus' (in this [sign is] health). [No Reserve]

Originally produced as part of a now disbound Qur'an produced in North Africa, likely in a provincial town. The origins of the script in which it is written date back to 7th century Kairouan, when the Kufic script developed in the East and the Maghribi script in North Africa, today used predominantly in Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. -
