CIRCA 16TH-19TH CENTURY A.D.
2 1/4 - 10 1/4 in. (12.5 kg total, 5.5-26 cm).
Comprising mainly glazed vessels and fragments including chamber pots, juglets, tripod pouring jugs, bowls with pierced work decoration and others; together with an almost complete vessel in fragments and a pewter tankard. [25, No Reserve]

The scene corresponds to John's Gospel: 'Here is your son.' 'Here is your mother.' (John 19:25-27). Portable icons of this kind were often carried by soldiers or by the travellers during a war, to assure the Divine protection and journey's safety.
