CIRCA 17TH-18TH CENTURY A.D.
6 1/2 in. (839 grams total, 16.5 cm).
Each with a shallow circular bowl and sturdy stem, six with a stamped X-motif within pelletted border to the bowl, and two with three stamped rosettes above letters(?). [8]
ProvenanceAcquired in the Netherlands in the 1990s.

Comprising: large ceramic shabti with agricultural tools in the crossed hands, some pigment to wig; mould-formed shabti with hieroglyphs to lower body; shabti in conical cap with hieroglyphs in column to lower body, chipped to reveal inner core; photograph of four travellers in Thebes with handwritten legend (two different hands) to reverse 'David Boyd, Bill Nichols, Bert Lethbridge + eric Lowe at the Colossi of Memmon at Thebes on Christmas Day 1939'; in old card collector's tray with padded liner. 884 grams total, 15.4-21.7 cm

Rectangular in plan with staple and ring to short edge; hinged lid with chequy border, engraved skull in profile, winged hourglass, crossed long-bones and heart; legend to the edge 'VIVAMVS MI[.] ORIENTIVM EST' (for 'Vivamus, moriendum est' -we should live [now] for we must die [in time]'); hatched chequy pattern to underside; inner chamber with reserved skeleton on an enamelled field. 11.67 grams, 28 mm

Comprising an olive wood cross on a triangular base with inlaid nacre and other detailing; lozengiform panels and nail-shaped plates, lateral rods with nacre to the ends; base with central gazed panel revealing three fragmentary supposed relics and label 'S. Serafin C'. 372 grams, 46.6 cm
Property of a Norwich, Norfolk, UK, gentleman.
Serafin was born in San Gimignano, Italy. Her family was poor, and her parents both died while she was still young. The child was known for her deeds of penance and humility but an illness afflicted her eyes, feet, and hands so she became paralysed.
