    John Evans, later Sir John (1823-1908) was the father of Sir Arthur John Evans (1851-1941), the archaeologist most famous for his work at Knossos, Crete; John studied and produced works on the subjects of Stone Age and Bronze Age implements as well as for Celtic coins; all of his works were pioneering but are still of great value today; his bookplate (copy of which is present) illustrates his major interests.
