Norman Bronze Hunting Dog or Falcon Leash Swivel Group
11TH-12TH CENTURY A.D.
1 - 2 in. (45 grams total, 25-51 mm).
Including a substantial swivel for a hunting dog with beast-head detailing to the loops, a thin swivel with similar heads on both loops and other types; many of these objects are published in the Detector Finds book series. [5, No Reserve]

The early type of horseshoe known as 'wavy rim' from the undulating sides was well used in the Anglo-Saxon period. At the time of the Normans it was implemented, and the Domesday Book refers to the presence of many blacksmiths in England. The type was in use until the 13th century A.D. -

Medieval Iron Rowel Spur Collection
Circa 13th-16th century A.D.Sold for (Inc. bp): £195
Comprising examples of various types, including some retaining the rowel, buckle and other fitting elements. 249 grams total, 11.5-15 cm
Acquired 1990s-early 2000s. East Anglian private collection.
The early rowel spurs had short necks and small four-six or seven point star rowels, while four rowels were uncommon. After c.1350 the multipoint rowel became voguish though the former shapes continued.
