Medieval Pewter Pilgrim Badge of a Bishop
CIRCA 1300 A.D.
2 in. (8.59 grams, 50 mm).
Standing figure facing wearing a mitre; right hand raised in sign of blessing, left hand emerging from the robe at the hip to grasp a staff; vestment with low-relief detail to front and back including four bosses and a broad collar; rectangular base with small supplicant to one side. [No Reserve]

Knife handles can be classified according to their method of attachment into whittle and scale-tang handles. Whittle-tang handles were the most common type used in the early medieval period. Whittle tang handles (like here) were more common later and fixed by pushing the pointed end of the knife tang into the handle. -
