Comprising examples of various types, including some retaining the rowel, buckle and other fitting elements. [4]

FootnotesThe early rowel spurs had short necks and small four-six or seven point star rowels, while four rowels were uncommon. After c.1350 the multipoint rowel became voguish though the former shapes continued.

Medieval Iron Crescent-Shaped Axehead

With a thick rectangular-section blade, curved edge and D-shaped section socket with elongated slender neck. 1 kg, 22 cm
Acquired 1971-1972. From the collection of the vendor's father. Property of a London, UK, collector.
A number of axes of this type have been found in Western Central Europe and the Baltic countries. They were mostly found in the second half of 13th century and 15th century A.D. contexts, but ichnographically attest that they were still in use in the 16th century A.D. -

The roundel held within a lead came with suspension loop to top, displaying the infant Christ suckling at the breast of the Virgin, seated within a grand architectural setting with vistas onto the landscape beyond; repaired. 272 grams, 23 cm
