Medieval Crusader Gilt Bronze Buckle
LATE 11TH-13TH CENTURY A.D.
1 in. (9.88 grams, 27 mm).
Featuring a cross-shaped central perforation, the internal corners with a raised chequered centrepiece from which a gilt stylised animal-head protrudes.

Ex property of a late Japanese collector, 1970s-2010.

Roger de Montalt was the first Baron Montalt, who rebelled against Henry III of England. He was one of the defenders of Cambridge for Henry III and during the reign of Edward I, he served overseas in the Gascon wars. -
