Lesbos, Mytilene EL 1/6 of Stater or Hekte. Circa 521-478 BC.

Head of ram to right; below, cockerel standing to left / Head of roaring lion to left; behind the truncation, rectangular punch; all incuse. BMFA 1677; Bodenstedt 11; SNG Lockett 2754; SNG von Aulock 7718. Good Very Fine.(2.45gr, 10mm, 6h.).

    The sceptre behind the eagle on reverse is a symbol, which was regularly given by the Senate to client-kings for their elevated position. The sceptre with this monogram link the bronze issue with the royal silver of Brogitaros.
