Large Western Asiatic Silver-Coloured Metal Ring with Chrysoprase Calligraphic Gemstone
20TH CENTURY A.D.
1 1/8 in. (17.51 grams, 29.75 mm overall, 20.68 mm internal diameter (approximate size British W, USA 11, Europe 25, Japan 24)).
Comprising a keeled hoop, striated shoulders with notched edges, openwork flower motif beneath the octagonal bezel, gilt rim to the bezel set with a facetted intaglio engraved calligraphy on four sides and the top. [No Reserve]
ProvenanceFrom the family collection of a Hampstead gentleman; formerly acquired in the 1980s.

Specialised collection of cuneiform texts, the property of a London gentleman and housed in London before 1988. Thence by descent to family members. Examined by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The collection is exceptional for the variety of types, including some very rare and well preserved examples.
