    From a very old English collection based on the cabinet patination. From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000. From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.

    Axes of this type were produced in the later Neolithic by expert knappers and polishers; these designs influenced early Bronze Age products such as the flat axes which eventually developed into palstave axeheads.
