Large Medieval Silver Ring with Agate Cabochon
CIRCA 14TH-15TH CENTURY A.D.
1 1/4 in. (14.03 grams, 32.10 mm overall, 23.14 mm internal diameter (approximate size British Y 1/2, USA 12 1/4, Europe 28.2, Japan 27)).
The carinated hoop expanding at the shoulders, with raised geometric design, circular bezel with agate cabochon in claw setting.

The copper-alloy pendant appears to be cross-shaped with the top arm forming the suspension loop. It is therefore possible to consider the pendant to be T-shaped, in the form of the Greek letter Tau. These Tau crosses often acted as miniature reliquaries which are thought to have contained a herbal compound that was used to treat the symptoms of St Anthony's fire. -
