Kashan Lustre Pottery Tile with Standing Male Figure

12TH-13TH CENTURY A.D.

6 3/4 x 5 3/8 in. (269 grams total, 17 x 13.5 cm).

Rectangular in plan with lateral spurs, reserved figure of a robed male in three-quarter view with hands clutching a purse (?) to the chest; mounted in a fabric-covered base with recessed opening displaying the reverse with impressed Kufic text.

    Specialised collection of cuneiform texts, the property of a London gentleman and housed in London before 1988. Thence by descent to family members. Examined by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The collection is exceptional for the variety of types, including some very rare and well preserved examples. Accompanied by a copy of a previous two page illustrated cataloguing note, collection no.23.
