Ionia, Ephesos. Phanes EL Hekte - 1/6 Stater. Circa 625-600 BC.

Forepart of stag to right, head reverted / Abstract geometric pattern within incuse square punch. Weidauer -; SNG von Aulock -; Zhuyuetang -; Fischer-Bosset, White Gold, p. 469, 20b. Very Fine. Nice blue iridescence around the devices on obverse. Very rare denomination.(2.30gr, 9mm).

The Phanes coins, so called for the name inscribed on them, are early electrum coins issued in seven denominations and are the most ancient inscribed coin series at present known.
