Indo-Portuguese Painted Wooden Box
GUJARAT, LATE 17TH-EARLY 18TH CENTURY A.D.
15 3/4 in. (2.2 kg, 40 cm).
Featuring iron strap hinges, nails and clasp, polychrome painted motifs to each face displaying scrolling tendrils, geometric ornament and pairs of animals in formal garden settings; to the front face, two figures armed with swords facing each other, small animals bounding around their heels.
