Pseudo-Byzantine type. Type E. Struck circa AD 658-664. Imperial Byzantine figure (Constans II) standing facing, holding cross-tipped staff and globus cruciger; Ο above globus / Large m; cross above with curved ornaments flanking; [A] N [...] to left, n Є O to right; illegible inscription in exergue; c/ms: bld ('bi-ludd') within incuse circle. For coin: cf. SICA 1, 518 (for type); for c/m: SICA 1, p. 90. 3.77gr, 24mm, 8h.
Fine. Rare.
From the collection of a gentleman, acquired on the London art market in the 1990s.
It is very possible that these coins, which bear the 'bld' countermark, were issued in the city of Diospolis (ΔΙΟΣΠΟΛΙΣ, Ludd) and superseded the earlier types of the same city. -

Stylised crowned Sasanian style bust to right; 'GDE ʾpzwt (may his glory increase) in Pahlavi to right and left; in outer margin, star-in-crescents, 'pd (excellent) in Pahlavi to lower right, nwk' (good) in Pahlavi to lower left / Fire altar flanked by attendants; pellets flanking flames, date to left, mint to right; alternating triple pellets and star-in-crescents in outer margin. Malek 174.1-8; Album 73; ICV -. 1.87gr, 26mm, 1h.
