    With an impression of the obverse on one side, and the reverse on the other, of the coin being counterfeited this ancient forger's casting mould would have been stacked with others, the molten metal being poured from above and allowed to cool.

IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust to right / SAECVLARES AVGG, antelope walking to left. RIC IV 161; Banti 50. 16.31gr, 27mm, 1h.

    Good Very Fine. Light brown patina. '5786' on reverse.

    Ludi Saeculares were secular games, and they were celebrated only once in a century, because it was scarcely given to a man to see them more than once in his life (in particular, the Romans reckoned a saeculum as the longest possible length of human life, either 100 or 110 years in length).
