Teos came under the rule of the Achaemenids, when Cyrus II (559-529 BC) was king. The occupation by the Persians led to the exodus of a large part of the population of Teos, between 545 and 540 BC, to Thrace, where they participated in the rebuilding of the city of Abdera.
