7/8 in. (91 grams total, 22 mm each).
Comprising eighteen repoussé plaques, each with a central boss and a flower bud to each side, the corners with alternating pinecones and acorns, pierced through the corners; mounted on a perspex backing.

Acquired before 1990. From an old German collection. From the private collection of John Meredith, acquired since the 1990s; thence by descent.
Terracotta figurines of horse and rider were common grave offerings in Boeotia, northwest of Attica, particularly during the 6th century B.C. Representations of warriors on horseback were already widespread in the Geometric Period, and widely used in Cyprus during this period. The rider, although influenced by Cypriot designs, does not show typical Cypriot characteristics. -

Comprising: a broad shallow bowl with two loop handles curving up towards the rim, short stem and broad foot with chamfered outer edge; the bowl with reserved central disc to inner face, palmette motifs at the junctions of the handles, frieze depicting two standing nude males flanking a crouching sphinx in profile; restored and with old dealer's labels beneath base. 414 grams, 27.3 cm wide
