DEUTSCHES REICH 1888 ★ FÜNF MARK ★, crowned eagle facing with wings spread, head to left; collared coat-of-arms on breast. Edge inscription: GOTT MIT UNS. KM 512; Jaeger 99; Davenport 787. Good Very Fine.(27.59gr, 38mm, 12h.).

This issue was withdrawn in May 1881, except for 38,400 pieces. (McCammon states that 38,240 pieces remained, but this is not in agreement with the Royal Mint documents.) The withdrawn coins were returned to the Royal Mint and melted for the 1881 one twelfth of a shilling coinage (Numista). -
