FRIEDRICH WILH. V. G. G. GROSSH. V. MECKLENB. STRL., head to left; A (mintmark) below / EIN THALER XXX EIN P F. F., crowned coat of Arms of the Grand Duchy encircled by the Garter inscribed HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE; date below. Edge inscription: GOTT SCHIRME MECKLENBURG. AKS 71; Jaeger 4 MRWS 120; KM 100; Davenport GT III 732. Good Very Fine.(18.43gr, 33mm, 12h.).

From the private collection of author and historian Dr DeWitt Bailey; thence by descent to his grandson.

Footnotes

Friedrich Wilhelm married a granddaughter of Georg III and made a Knight of the Order of the Garter by Queen Victoria (1862), which allows him to add the famous garter to his Arms.
