BAYERN, head to right, C.VOIGT in small lettering below / EIN VEREINSTHALER XXX EIN PFUND FEIN, crowned arms of Bavaria supported by two crowned standing lions; date below. Edge inscription: GOTT SEGNE BAYERN. AKS 173; Jaeger 5 Bay 101; KM 869; Davenport GT III 609. Good Very Fine.(13.78gr, 33mm, 12h.).

    From the private collection of John Meredith, acquired since the 1990s; thence by descent.

    This issue was withdrawn in May 1881, except for 38,400 pieces. (McCammon states that 38,240 pieces remained, but this is not in agreement with the Royal Mint documents.) The withdrawn coins were returned to the Royal Mint and melted for the 1881 one twelfth of a shilling coinage (Numista).
