Frankish Silver-Gilt Bow Brooch with Beast Heads

EARLY 6TH CENTURY A.D.

3 1/8 in. (28 grams, 80 mm).

Rectangular headplate with 'ear' to each corner and rectangular pseudo-cell in centre, ribbed bow, lobed footplate with beast-head lappets at the shoulder, scrolled design flanking the median rib, lobed side finials either side; remains of pin-lugs and catchplate to the reverse.

Ex German art market, 2000s.
Acquired from an EU collector living in London.
From the collection of a Surrey, UK, gentleman.
