Frankish Bronze Beast Facing Back Plate Brooch
6TH CENTURY A.D.
1 in. (5.59 grams, 25.75 mm).
Formed as a hippocampus with s-shaped body, central band of chip-carved zigzags, triangular ear and chevron mouth, crescentic leg beneath the body; three dots to the head; pin-lug and catchplate to the reverse. [No Reserve]

The legend 'CMASPRO' may be a bungled attempt to reproduce Roman script. -

Composed of restrung blue and amber glass oblate-shaped beads, interspersed with collared silver biconical beads; the necklace featuring four pendants: two Roman silver denarii with applied suspension loops; two polished rock crystal pendants set in a decorative silver frame; a floral pendant with central red glass cabochon, irregular cells to the outer edge for glass inserts of which two are still in situ. 54 grams, 36 cm long
