English Medieval Coins - Edward IV - Bristol Mint - Gold Rose Ryal July 1466-July 1467 AD

First reign, light coinage, type VII. Obv: king standing in ship with rose on side holding sword and shield, large E in standard, B in waves for Bristol mint with EDWARD' DI GRA REX AnGL Z FRAnC DNS IB legend with trefoil stops. Rev: rose on radiate sun at centre on floriate cross with crowned lions in angles with IhC AVT' TRAnSIEnS PER MEDIVM ILLORVM IBAT legend with trefoil stops and 'crown' mintmark. 7.72 grams.

About extremely fine; rare.

PROVENANCE:
Found while searching with the use of a metal detector in the Itchen Valley, near Winchester, Hampshire, UK; accompanied by a copy of the Portable Antiquities Scheme report number BERK-C2ED7C; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no. 10451-168762.
