English Coal Iron
20TH CENTURY A.D.
7 3/4 in. (1.7 kg, 19.5 cm high).
A large cast iron smoothing iron with hollow and vented body to receive hot coals, the dentil-edged lid hinged at back with wood-handled securing latch and fitted with arched strap handle on posts; the rear of the body with access slot and hinged cover. [No Reserve]

Produced for the North Irish Horse (60th Imperial Yeomanry) regiment and was presented to a Colonel at some stage in its history. The NIH is a yeomanry unit of the British Territorial Army raised in the northern counties of Ireland in the aftermath of the Second Boer War. -
