Egyptian Grand Tour Bifacial Tile in Wooden Frame

19TH CENTURY A.D.

9 1/2 x 10 5/8 in. (1.38 kg total, 24 x 27 cm including stand).

Square limestone panel with low-relief carvings on both broad faces: one side depicts the god Ptah wearing the characteristic tight-fitting skull cap, with a uraeus to the brow, and a collar with a fringe of teardrop pendants; the other side showing a male official with a wig of dense curly hair, a large lentoid eye, and a tiered collar of teardrops, triangular, pellet, and other elements in radiating bands; mounted in a bespoke wooden frame with stand.
