Egyptian Grand Tour Bifacial Tile in Wooden Frame

19TH CENTURY A.D.

9 1/2 x 10 5/8 in. (1.38 kg total, 24 x 27 cm including stand).

Square limestone panel with low-relief carvings on both broad faces: one side depicts the god Ptah wearing the characteristic tight-fitting skull cap, with a uraeus to the brow, and a collar with a fringe of teardrop pendants; the other side showing a male official with a wig of dense curly hair, a large lentoid eye, and a tiered collar of teardrops, triangular, pellet, and other elements in radiating bands; mounted in a bespoke wooden frame with stand.     The icon features meticulous craftsmanship typical of Orthodox iconography. The enamel colors, despite the passage of time, retain their vibrant intensity, highlighting the key elements of the depicted images.
