Hollow-formed shot with plug in situ, engraved: 'INKERMAN / NOV 1854 / 49 FOOT'.

Property of a Nottinghamshire, UK, gentleman.

Footnotes

The 49th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) (Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment which took part in the Crimean War and fought at the Battle of Inkerman in November 1854.

    These bronze daggers or dirks, typical of Marlik culture, were cast in a one piece mould according to Negahban, although in some specimens the penannular guard was cast later into the blade. The separate sets of encircling ribs on the grips are again typical of swords from the Marlik area.
