Nicomedia mint; struck AD 317-320. 2nd officina. D N FL CL CONSTANTINVS NOB C, laureate and draped bust to left, globe and sceptre in left hand, mappa in right / [P]ROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS, Jupiter standing to left, chlamys over left shoulder, holding Victory on globe with right hand and leaning on sceptre with left; palm branch in left field, pellet over B in right; SMN in exergue. RIC VII 35. Near Very Fine. Rare.(2.65gr, 20mm, 6h.).

    During the 4th century, the urban life in Britain was in serious decline and the supplies of currency from the Empire temporarily disrupted, so the local imitations of Constantius II and the usurper Magnentius became necessary to cover the deficit.
