Chinese Song Tile with Handprint Signature
SONG DYNASTY, 960-1279 A.D. OR LATER
11 3/4 in. (4.1 kg, 29.5 cm wide).
Rectangular in plan with group of figures modelled in the half-round; tall archer with headdress, waistband and quiver, right hand extended towards female standing erect with hands clasped to her chest, beside a smaller elderly figure with doleful facial expression; impressed handprint to the reverse.
