HAN DYNASTY, 206 B.C.-220 A.D. AND LATER
18 1/4 in. (5.25 kg total, 46.5 cm high).
Modelled in the round in static pose, tail absent; accompanied by a later separately modelled robed rider erect and close to the rearing neck of the horse. [2]

The Bixi is a mythical beast, one of the nine sons of the Dragon King. The domed carapace of the beast was believed to represent the vault of the heavens while its lower shell represented the earth; the living flesh within represented humankind. -
