Chinese Carved Soapstone Carving Group

1 7/8 - 3 5/8 in. (360 grams total, 49-91 mm).
Carved triangular inkwell with landscape detailing, trees and group of figures; carved spray of flowers on an old collector's base; old inked label 'Bildstein China'; both with museum accession number '4905' inked in white on a black painted background. [2, No Reserve]

In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau. -
