Celts in Lower Danube AR Tetradrachm. Circa 300-100 BC.

Imitating Alexander III and Philip III of Macedon. Degraded head of Herakles to right / Stylised Zeus seated to left, holding eagle in right hand and sceptre with left. Cf. Lanz 910-932. Fine.(15.09gr, 27mm, 12h).

Dobunnic emblem of tree with pellet at base / ANTEΘ-[R]I-C-OV, stylised triple-tailed horse to right; cross and crescent between pellets above, cross above six-spoked wheel and pellet below, cross and pellet beneath horse's head, three pellets beneath tail. Cf. ABC 2066 note (only one other of this type known); Van Arsdell 1069-1 var. (ANTED); BMC 3023-27 var. (same); SCBC 379 var. (same). 5.44gr, 19mm, 10h

    Good Extremely Fine. Well-centered with sharp details. Extremely rare variant.

    Found in Bishton, near Newport, Gwent, South Wales, UK, in 2024; Accompanied by copy of the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) report after recording with Cardiff Museum, with reference no. NMGW-A082DB; This coin is described by PAS as a 'find of note and has been designated: County / local importance.'
